Most pick 6 players should not be playing the pick six. There are other bets with better odds given the amount of money the smaller punter usually has at his or her disposal. It's all about the odds and the payoff. What are the odds (your chances of winning) and what will the payoff be and how much money have you got to bet. If the odds are too short you have to risk a lot to win a little and still run the risk of losing. If you are prepared to wait longer then pick a bet that has longer odds but that has a strike rate of say 1 in 10 and with a payoff that makes you smile. The trifecta or superfecta may be a better bet for most pick 6 players. It's all about the number of combinations that you have covered. If the combined odds of your pick 6 ticket(s) are 100-1 why do you get upset when you never seem to win? It's not that Lady Luck has ignored you, its just pure math. The odds are against you. You have to tilt the odds in your favor. It's about playing enough combinations to give you a shot at winning at an affordable cost. If you are a multi-millionaire then $5000 per pick six is nothing but covers a sufficent number of combinations to give you a fair chance. If you only have $500 available when then you are going to need Math and Lady Luck and patience. If you only have $50 then maybe playing longshot exactas are a better idea. By that I mean the following:
FBO where F=favourite, B=back-up runners (say 2nd, 3rd and 4th favourite), O=longer priced runners
So single the favorite F with all the longshots i.e. FXO (1X5 runners for example) x 2 =$10 or $20 depending on how the exacta is played in your country. Or box the 2,3 and 4th favourite 3X and hope the favorite runs 3rd or worse. Or only play exactas that exclude the favourite i.e. Box 2,3,4 or 2,3,4X5,6,7,8,9,10 or play exactas that have the longshots in front i.e. 5,6,7,8,9,10XF or 5,6,7,8,9,10X2,3,4. In the latter case you KNOW the bet is going to pay. Absolutely. What you do not know is in which race such an exacta will arrive. So you need to calculate how much it will cost you to play it each race viz. maybe $15 or $30. Again it would be unwise to just play from race to race. When the racing day starts wait to see what happens in race 1and maybe only enter the pool from race 2 or 3 onwards. have a betting bank, a stakes amount and a daily loss limit. If you are up to your daily limit that's it GO HOME. Race over. Wife and the kids are waiting. Tomorrow is another day. Don't push. Why risk your betting bank? If you risk that there will be racing the next day but YOU will not be there. You will be elsewhere cursing your rotten luck. Don't do it. Discipline. Discipline. Discipline. Strategy. Betting Bank. Stakes amount. Odds in your favor. These must become like mantras. Else play the lottery. Buy a ticket every weekend and sit at home and watch the draw. To win this game you have to know what you are doing. If you don't know what you are doing racing is not the place to do it!
